The latin word voluta means forming a spiral curve or curves and that describes the volute shell perfectly. Volute shells can be found on coral, sandy, or muddy ocean floors but mainly in deep waters of tropical seas.
The Noble Volute is edible (not the shell) and at one time was abundant around Singapore but it is now considered a "vulnerable" species.
